The starting point

The counselling laboratory at UIN Banten wanted to digitise tools used in student practice. Participants needed to complete assessments on computers and phones, with results available after processing.

Moving the questions onto a screen was only part of the work. The application also needed to connect participants, classes, sessions, answers, and results across several instruments.

An Excel route was needed for data collected or entered outside the application. Both routes had to fit the laboratory’s procedures.

My contribution

Analysis & documentation

Understood the client’s workflow, analysed requirements, and documented the system to be built.

Architecture & development

Designed the frontend/backend architecture, MySQL relationships, and instrument-specific application flows, then implemented them.

Testing & infrastructure

Performed QA, prepared the VPS operating system and dependencies, and set up deployment with CI/CD.

Implementation & support

Worked directly with the client to resolve bugs, initial-data issues, and questions after release.

The client supplied the BK expertise behind calculation and interpretation rules. I translated those requirements into data structures and application behaviour; I did not define or validate the psychological instruments.

03 / The workflow

A shared session. Different assessment needs.

  1. 01

    Organise the session

Connect the academic period, classes, and participants.

  2. 02

    Collect the responses

Participants use the web interface, or administrators import Excel data.

  3. 03

    Process by instrument

Apply the calculation requirements supplied by the client.

  4. 04

    Review the results

Present completion status, instrument-specific fields, and individual detail.

Architecture around the assessment procedure

Share administration across instruments

Schools, classes, participants, academic periods, and test sessions provide a common administrative foundation. Reusing those relationships keeps the overall procedure connected without creating a separate participant system for every instrument.

Give each instrument the structure it needs

Questions, responses, and results differ across instruments. I used shared relationships where the workflow overlapped and separate models where an instrument needed its own structure. Sociometry, for example, records choices between participants and presents them as relationships.

Keep direct participation and Excel input connected

The web test flow supports participants on computers and phones. Class templates and Excel import accommodate data entered or collected separately, alongside the laboratory’s digital workflow.

Include the operating environment in delivery

I prepared the VPS, installed the operating system and dependencies, and configured CI/CD. Direct client communication continued through implementation so bugs and initial-data issues could be resolved.

Outcome & scope

The platform is in use, supporting the laboratory’s move from paper-based practice to computer and phone access, immediate result processing, and Excel-based input. My involvement continued after release through direct client support.

This case study demonstrates software engineering and delivery. Calculation and interpretation requirements come from the client’s BK expertise; no psychometric validation, usage totals, or measured time savings are claimed.
